Originated from China, the "no nails" architectural technology (as mentioned under my photo #17) spread to Korea around the 4th century, along with the arrival of Buddhism.
While they shared these "nailless" roots, Korean palaces (such as those of the Joseon Dynasty) developed unique characteristics.
The palace has a history of fires, with major destruction in 1553 and 1592, along with subsequent damage in the 19th century.
The current Geunjeongjeon building seen today is the 1867 rebuild, which was later repaired and is now designated as National Treasure No. 223
