A Place That Time Has Passed

Elliston, Virginia

Time has passed by the Ellistion Garage And Auto Parts Store on US 460 south of Christiansburg, Virginia. So many places and rural communities have been passed by due to interstate highways. This area is one of those places. I still drive US 460 due to the beautiful farming scenery, almost no traffic and to avoid Interstate 81 due to the many accidents, the large numbers of trucks and those who feel speed limits don't apply to them.

A great 'candid' shot of a place so reminiscent of another era.

Many of these communities have suffered over the years as well as inner cities divided by highways cutting through them. This has such a quiet haunting feeling. It seems stuck in time. V

Great scene. Love the "not-so-professional" hand-lettered window.

Maybe not such a great place to buy auto parts, but a terrific one for a shot of nostalgia. The mono presentation adds to the mood. Love the clarity that shows all the cracks.

there is a lingering sense of melancholy at work here, yet as you suggest, a more peaceful scene as well..

So sad to see the state of this place, which you captured well. And I applaud your taking US 460 instead of the interstate. Much safer and obviously more attractive drive. V.

A very photogenic place that was well worth a stop. Superb range of grey tones. BV.

I am always fascinated by scenes and places like this and due to some flaw in my brain or character find them very attractive photo subjects. Wonderful find and photo that is perfect for B&W. ~BV~
