Dogbane beetle (Chrysochus auratus)

Larose Forest

Not to be confused with the invasive Japanese Beetles, whom they superficially resemble.

These are native to Ontario and their host plant is the native Spreading Dogbane plant. In my experience, the beetles are never abundant. They are, however, beautiful, and depending on how the light hits them they can show colours of green to red to burgundy to orange to gold.
