Sun Rise Over The Athabasca River

Jasper, Canada

I used my Pixel 7 for this capture since I had my DSLR on a tripod, locked down and ready to capture an upstream image once the lighting improved. I often use my phone for quick captures when it was not convent to use my Canon 5D Mark 4. This was more of a quick capture while I was waiting but the Pixel 7 did what I think is a decent job with this image. Since this trip I decided to add a Sony RX 100 Vll as a travel pocket camera to use instead of the Pixel 7 due to hopefully better image quality especially in low light and more control options. I realize the image quality of the Sony will not equal the Canon 5D Mark 4 but I am hoping for more than the Pixel 7 sometimes provides. I hope it will also work for street photography when I don't want to carry a DSLR. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on the Sony that I recently purchased. I have not used it yet.

What truly crowns the scene is that patch of extraordinary light, soft but purposeful,
settling over the unfolding layers, lifting the composition, adding warmth and focus,
turning an already compelling view into something quietly memorable.....V

It is indeed a wonderful shot with your cell phone Dave…mine surprises me most 0f the time I use it…I have a Sony 6000 camera…not on the same class as the one you have but I have been over the moon with it and especially for using with my vintage lenses…so I imagine the one you have is fantastic…BV

Wonderful photo with the phone. I find that my iphone does a capable job as a backup to my Nikon mirrorless camera.

Nice capture of magic hour. Pretty soon a phone is all we'll need.

I am going through the same thought process. I have a secondhand Leica D-Lux 7 as my everyday carry and the image quality is great with m43 sensor great despite few pixels. But I wish it had a tilt screen. I hear the Sony is a good one too.

Très beau coucher de soleil. Les téléphones actuels fonctionnent mieux que les premiers reflex numériques. V

Beautiful sunrise shot. I think your cell phone did an excellent job. I have found in recent years that I prefer using my iPhone for many kinds of shots, finding it sometimes does a better job than a "real" camera would do. It also attracts less attention for candid shots than a camera would attract. V.

I agree that the phone did a decent job here. Great scene as well. ~BV~
