Ankylosaurus

This large, heavily armored dinosaur had a sizable club tail that was likely used to deliver powerful blows to potential predators. It also bore armor plates and spikes to protect its head and body. Ankylosaurus lived in what is now western North America. The model was made with horse chestnut bark, driftwood, pine bark, several types of fruit, okra, hickory and shelf fungus.

Taken at the US Botanic Garden’s annual holiday display, this year titled ‘Season’s Greenings: Dino-Mite!’. Model trains run on several tracks around the exhibit area.
