We had a visit to Dariya Daulat Bagh in Srirangapatna, India. It was built in 1784 by Tipu Sultan, the “Tiger of Mysore,” as his summer retreat. It is entirely made out of teak. It is fully painted with hundreds of panels and murals depicting the sultans triumphs. He was supposed to be a formidable military strategist. He won the Second Anglo-Mysore War (1780–1784) but lost the Third Anglo-Mysore War (1790–1792) and the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War (1799) in which he was killed. I'm just a country chemist, but that record doesn't seem like a formidable military strategist. Ginny is posing with one of the jillions of beautiful panels in the sultan's summer retreat.
