The lady, who delivered these flowers https://pbase.com/britestar/image/175834238 from a local florist, complimented our new courtyard landscaping. A lot of people do when they see it.
However, she also asked if we planned to now re stain the wood trim on our brick Tudor style home. As I've been saying for years now, that answered is a big YES. That's when she then mentioned she owns a painting company. Huh??? She was delivering flowers for another company but also runs a painting company. That seemed odd. But my husband took her business card to check her out.
Her references and legal documents (insurance, etc) - plus an A+ with the BBB - all checked out. Although her painting company is relatively "new", it is legit and very well rated. She is also better priced than her competitors who have no better ratings. Plus, her professionalism just clicked with my husband. He hired her.
She is still delivering flowers for the florist, but she also is really the owner/manager of a painting company. That seems like an odd combination. But these days, who knows. She said she sidelines in floral deliveries because she enjoys meeting new people.
So far, the men working for her have been doing an excellent job for us. Today, was spent in replacing the rough cedar panels that have weathered over the years and did need replacement. Goodby woodpecker and squirrel holes!!!
Look at the photo!!! Thank goodness my husband finally decided better than to attempt this himself.
He has been painting the lower areas of the house because he finds personal satisfaction in doing it. Go figure. A business executive by profession, he actually likes doing this kind of work around the house. But I absolutely don't want him messing around up on the roof. Thankfully, he finally did give in & agreed that pros should handle those higher areas. I was afraid that he'd attempt those areas that require personal risk. He did it all himself the last time.
I feel lucky that an odd flower delivery offshoot has ended up giving me peace of my mind about my husband's safety. And we're both lucky that this woman owned business actually is a good & reliable company. She - not her husband - is the one running the business.
The only thing I currently don't like is "strange men" popping up unannounced in our courtyard and on the back deck unexpectedly. These men are just going about their business. However, they seem to be everywhere unannounced at once. That is driving our dogs nuts with the idea of "stranger danger" in their personal space... I'll be glad when this work is done. But if done well, our house should look new again.
