Elm sawfly (Cimbex americanus)

Larose Forest

The large, brightly coloured sawfly larvae, come in several colour forms, two are shown here, found last night in Larose Forest. The adult male was found in Larose Forest some years ago. Although the larvae look like moth caterpillars, this species is in the Order Hymenoptera: Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies.
