In 1521, the German monk and theology professor Martin Luther was summoned to Worms to appear before the Holy Roman Emperor to defend his criticisms of the Catholic church's corruption.
He entered the city through Martin's Gate.
Over the centuries the gate had been damaged and demolished.
A building has been standing at this spot since 1904.
Its artistically adorned façade is graced with the words 'Martin's Gate' embossed on its surface.
