The largest wave ever record in history was Lituya Bay Alaska and the run up wave there was reported to be 1700 feet. The preliminary reports of the Tracy Arm wave is estimated at 1500 but now they think it might have even been higher than the Lituya bay event. The slide is estimated to be in excess of 1,000,000,000 cubic meters of material. The dark area you see at the toe of Sawyer glacier is the debris wave that carried mud and rock far up onto the glacier. The face of the glacier you see that is white right at the tide line is around 100-150 feet high. The face is roughly 1/2 mile wide. The run up wave is in the middle right side with the main avalanche happening around the corner to the left. All trees and soil was stripped from that far wall as seen in this image. Its hard to put into perspective how large this even was. The lower left of this image shows, right at the water line, the tsunami damage along the wall as it left this area. That clean strip is around 100-150 feet high as it moved out. This is a popular location for tourist boats but it was around 5:30 am so no boats were in the fjord at the time of the slide. If there were, it would have been catastrophic.
