Wild mushrooms have been popping up across yards and parks around Kansas City— a classic fungal response to moisture and warmth. Here's what's going on:
🍄 Why Mushrooms Appear After Rain
Moisture activates mycelium, the underground fungal network, prompting it to produce mushrooms as reproductive structures. Spores spread easily in damp conditions, especially when carried by raindrops or wind. Mushrooms can emerge overnight, especially in areas with rich organic matter like mulch, compost, or decaying wood.
⚠️ Safety Concerns
Many mushrooms are harmless, but some can be toxic, especially to children and pets. In Kansas City, white mushrooms have raised concern due to their potential to cause serious liver damage if ingested. Experts recommend not touching or consuming wild mushrooms unless properly identified by a mycologisrt.

These two varieties are suddenly growing in the planter pot with my one of my Daylilies. Who knows what else more might sprout tomorrow?
Other mushrooms and toadstools are popping up all over everyone's yards.
More "excessive rain" is supposed to begin again tomorrow, with temperatures remaining in the 90's.
Hopefully, there will be no more flooding https://pbase.com/britestar/image/175642639 But the local weather broadcasters have concerns and have issued a watch.
What a week!
