A detached villa situated in the northwestern quadrant of Hereplein Square, built in 1881 by order of Mayor Jhr. mr. J.A.E.A. van Panhuys (1836-1907; Queen's Commissioner of Groningen from 1883 to 1893) based on a design by the architect G. Schnitger (1841-1917), originally from Oldenburg (Germany), in a richly ornamented, eclectic architectural style. The Van Panhuys family spent their summers at the Nienoord estate in Leek (Groningen). Since 1923, the building has been used as offices by the Dutch Central Bank, and for this purpose and subsequent renovations, the interior has been completely renovated. Decorative grilles in patterned patterns have been applied to the ground-floor windows. It is now an office building.
