This image shows another mosaic figure from the Golden Hall (Gyllene Salen) in Stockholm City Hall (Stadshuset). Like the warrior figure you shared earlier, this one is set within a large arched niche and features a stylized, symbolic personification.
Key features:
The figure is female, holding a caduceus in one hand (staff with two entwined serpents), and a scroll or object in the other.
These are traditional symbols of commerce, diplomacy, or wisdom, suggesting this figure may represent Trade, Knowledge, or a related virtue.
The setting is entirely framed in gold mosaic with classical patterns and emblematic motifs, surrounded by torches, vases, and decorative medallions.
Context:
Created by artist Einar Forseth in the early 1920s, the Golden Hall’s mosaic program depicts Sweden’s cities, history, myths, and virtues in allegorical form.
These wall figures flank the Queen of Lake Mälaren at the center, who personifies Stockholm itself.
