The Council Chamber (Rådssalen) of Stockholm City Hall (Stadshuset).
Key Features:
The striking red and gold geometric wall panels and tall windows with red drapes give the room its dramatic and distinctive appearance.
The semi-circular seating arrangement is used for municipal council meetings, where the elected members of Stockholm’s city government debate and make decisions.
The presiding chair and podium are centrally placed under a decorative canopy.
The chamber is richly decorated with mahogany desks, leather chairs, and carpeted flooring, symbolizing both formality and democratic transparency.
Design Influence:
Architect Ragnar Östberg designed this chamber with a mix of Swedish National Romanticism and Venetian Gothic inspiration, while also emphasizing functionality for modern governance.
