Freight

Fremantle, Australia

As we were about to cross the rails this freight train came and the automatic sprinklers started.
Not sure of the purpose of these sprinklers. Any ideas?

Hi Bill, I used work at the Fremantle Port Authority, as Russell has pointed out this is to reduce the noise.
Great Catch.

Bill, this is to reduce the squealing noise rail wheels generate especially on curved track and this is probably near residential housing. Cannot use grease obviously. Water is just as effective but needs to be reapplied each time.Nice framing BTW. V!

Pretty interesting, but no idea why the sprinklers would come on.
