After a quiet day at Rutland Water, I wandered over to Lapwing Hide just before setting off home. The birds were way off in the distance but just before I gave up, I spotted a movement at the waters edge. It was a grass snake hunting under water. I watched it for a while as it moved around in between various submerged rocks, searching under each of them. Eventually, it found what it was looking for and emerged with a fish. It carried the fish up out of the water and disappeared between some rocks above the water line.
I'm not a fish expert, but I think it may be a Bullhead or Miller's Thumb.
