In the same State South Dakota, about 17 miles (27 km) from Mount Rushmore, a much bigger monument has been being carved out from Thunderhead Mountain. It's a privately funded monument, managed by some nonprofit organization, as they did not accept funding from the Federal. It's also situated on a private land considered sacred by some Oglala Lakota. It's a monument to the Oglala Lakota war hero Crazy Horse.
