Cited in the famous book by Patricia Schulz (writer and columnist for the Wall Street Journal) on the "1000 places you must have seen in your life", Maison Kammerzell is by all accounts one of the most beautiful brasseries in the world.Ideally located at the foot of Strasbourg Cathedral , in the heart of Europe, it is a must-see place to visit. Considered "the most beautiful house in Strasbourg," it symbolizes the Renaissance art of the city, which is a source of great pride for it.Its original architecture, which looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale, offers the viewer the various facets of regional art through the centuries.Wooden sculptures, wall frescoes, spiral staircases, viewing angles are all details that bear witness to the richness of the past that inhabits this magical place. The Gothic foundations of the building date from 1427 and it was in 1467 and 1589 that the three floors with ornamental timber framing were built, which make it so special.
On the facade , the highly detailed sculpted figures exalt the virtues advocated by the humanist ideal of the Renaissance, which blends medieval nobility and ancient culture. The 75 stained-glass windows adorning them warmly illuminate the interior of the rooms.
