Famous Stairway In Arzachena

Arzachena, Sardinia, Italy

The famous, vivid and fun stairway in Arzachena is leading up to the church of Saint Lucia (Chiesa Santa Lucia).
Visitors can enjoy the ever-changing steps painted by local artists.
This work was created by Fabio Petani and represents the lush scenery of the typical flora of Gallura.
Myrtle and rosemary lead the viewer along a staircase to the church, where the olive tree symbolizes peace and brotherhood.
Saint Lucia is venerated as the patron saint of sight and eye protection. Rosemary (white silhouette) contains substances that promote eye health.
The myrtle, linked to the goddess Venus, symbolizes purity and beauty, while the olive tree, sacred in various traditions, represents regeneration and peace.
