13 Spring Swallow Standoff

Westminster, CO

I came across a large apartment block of mud swallow (or cliff swallow) nests on an underpass on my run yesterday, so I returned with my camera. These birds winter in the southern hemisphere, and return to Colorado in the spring to build their nests. I've put a shot showing a bunch of the mud nests in Exhibition

At first I wondered if I was seeing one bird looking at its reflection. A friend was as vigilant about barn swallows as Paul is about dandelions. The birds themselves are great fun to watch and devour flying insects. However, they repeatedly repeatedly committed the transgression of pooping on his car.

Thanks Traveller, I was on an embankment, next to the overpass, when I took this shot, so I was pretty much on a level with the nests. The shot in Exhibition was taken from the running path, looking up at the nests.

The perspective seemed so odd to me at first, but now arresting in interest. Traveller

A superior capture.
A great standoff.
