Plate I - Orion - nebulae / star clusters (1)

M1 , the Crab nebula, was discovered by John Bevis in 1731 and first observed by William Herschel on March 23, 1783.

NGC 1896 (Herschel designation VIII.4) was discovered by William Herschel on January 17, 1784.
However, the position on the map is wrong. It actually is 9° higher in declination.

NGC 2129 (Herschel designation VIII.26) was discovered by William Herschel on February 6, 1782.
