Chief Shakes Tribal House: A Living Tribute to Tlingit Heritage

The Chief Shakes Tribal House is a faithful replica of the traditional Tlingit clan house of the Naanyaa.aayi Clan.
Located on Shakes Island in the middle of Wrangell’s Reliance Harbor, this cultural landmark underwent a significant restoration in 2013.
The restoration honored traditional Tlingit craftsmanship, with every plank and post in the house carved using time-honored methods by Master Carvers, supported by trained local apprentices.
