Exploring The Escalante National Monument

Southern Utah North Of Page, Arizona

My son Paul and I love to explore remote areas by just turning off the main highway and driving down what some people might call a road. Many of these "roads" are more like 4x4 adventures. One morning while camping near Lake Powell, we did some sunrise exploring by driving back into southern Utah and this is one scene we photographed. We continued driving deeper into the Escalante National Monument with word "remote" becoming an understatement. A photographer could spend a lifetime and never get to explore all of the backroads in Utah. This is a place were time really has stood still.

This has the feeling and look of an other world. I always wonder what these formations looked like a 100 thousand years ago.
