Ne supportant plus la perfection du Pavillon d’Or en comparaison avec sa propre déficience, il y met le feu, consumant dans les flammes cette oeuvre construite au XIVème siècle. Le temple fut réellement la proie d’un incendie en 1950 et le coupable était un jeune bonze novice de 21 ans. Il fut entièrement rebâti en 1955.


After a re-reading of Yukio Mishima’s Golden Pavilion.

In the famous novel by Mishima, a young monk, stuttering, has a confused relationship with beauty. No longer supporting the perfection of the Golden Pavilion in comparison with his own deficiency, he sets fire to it, burning this work built in the fourteenth century. The temple was actually burned down in 1950 and the culprit was a 21-year-old novice monk. It was completely rebuilt in 1955.
