Cyclocybe erebia

McCormick Woods, Port Orchard, Washington

A saprobic terrestrial species, nowhere common, this species is found under hardwoods and conifers in woodland settings, often in urban environments. Caps are up to 5 cm, brown to dark brown, smooth, and sticky when fresh. The gills are moderately spaced to close, pale at first but becoming brown as the spores mature. The spore print in brown. The stipe is cylindrical, equal or enlarging somewhat basally, whitish at first but becoming brownish or cremy brown. There is no distinct odor. It is not considered edible
