April’s Pink Micro Moon in 2025 reached its full phase on April 12, 2025, at 7:23 p.m. CDT, aligning beautifully with moonrise in parts of North America. My photo was taken an hour after moonrise. Despite its name, the moon wasn’t actually pink. The "pink" name comes from the pink phlox flowers that bloom in spring.
This full moon was also a micro moon, meaning it appeared smaller than usual because it was at its farthest point from Earth, known as apogee. The moon’s light was dimmed and reddened by Earth's atmosphere, giving it a subtle orange glow.
