This is an oil painting on stretched canvas inspired by an early 20th century farmhouse located near Elliston, Virginia. Old rural houses like this one have a unique character. This house sits very close to rail road tracks and the Roanoke River which at one time would have been a popular location. I used to do a lot of oil paintings on commission of houses that had special meaning to the buyers plus old stores and other structures including churches. It was something I just wanted to paint. The title refers to the condition of the house and the needed repairs. I am not sure if anyone still lives there but I know there has to be a story to be told.
