😁Smudge marks are from water droplets on the lens , and I did get a little wet 😂The first lighthouse at this site was constructed in 1870. In April 1906, a devastating earthquake struck the light station. The keeper's residence and lighthouse were damaged so severely they had to be demolished. The new lighthouse began operation in 1908. The original 1908 1st Order Fresnel lens was removed from the Tower in 2008, but was turned off in 1978 when the lighthouse became automated.
