Ham House bought its Ice from a Lake in Canada. Because it was the cleanest water available.
Imagine the cost of cutting ice from the lake. Taken on Horse and cart to a port. Put on a sailing ship and brought to England. possibly sail into London. Then smaller boats up river to Ham House which is beside the Thames. I would love to do that job.
