An interesting tidbit about the maoi is that they all had eyes originally. Several have been discovered. We had a visit to Ahu Ko Te Riku, in Hanga Roa on Easter Island, upon which modern coral eyes with red scoria pupils have been mounted. This one is also surmounted by a red scoria pukao top not. All the other moai had a pukao. This is located 12 miles from the quarry so getting it here is quite a chore. Broken moai are found along the routes from the quarry. I wonder how you sau "oops" in the rapa nui language.
