During the English Civil War in around 1650, Oliver Cromwell's parliamentarian troops smashed all the glass in this window. When the monarchy was restored in 1660, the locals gathered up all the glass fragments which were then reinserted into the window but in a completely random manner creating a mosaic pattern with no recognisable images.
