We had a very early morning, departing the hotel in Santiago at 6am. We boarded a Boeing 787 for the 5 1/2 hour flight to Easter Island. We arrived in bright sunshine and windy conditions for a week's stay, kocking off a bucket list item.
In addition to all the statuary which everybody saw in their grade school geography books, there is a big annual festival going on at Easter Island. It is called the Tapati festival. Its a week long event which features competitions. The musical ones are huge. There are lesser ones like weight lifting and story telling. The musical event tonight featured traditional Rapa Nui (Easter Island) singing and dancing. Very cool music. Reminds me of Cajun music.
