Southeast Louisiana had not seen this much snow since 1895. The snow came down in blizzard form from 7 a.m.to 5 p.m. Because Louisiana is not accustomed to snow there are no salt or sand trucks and no snowplows. Roads and bridges were closed for four days until the snow and ice melted. It was a grand time for children, making snowmen and sliding down the levee of the Mississippi River. New Orleans shut down the streetcars and people made snowmen in the middle of Canal Street.
