Our Lady of Lourdes Church

I found myself parked close to Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Drogheda and decided to go in and see what it is like.
Dating from the mid-1900s, the National Built Heritage Service describes it as being "built in a Classical Revival style and has a strong presence with an impressive tower dominating the surrounding townscape. This building has attractive classical proportions and a large simply decorated interior.

A very particular church with this scene depicting the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes. The light colors and the light create a a sense of calm.

It is quite striking for lack of ornamentation, and for that remarkable mural. Super shot. V

doubtless a hallowed space for believers....comforting thar some of the superstitious actually respect the doctrine of humbleness that eludes most of the mystics...their ambiguous space,, smartly photographed, says a lot about blind belief..

I don't spend a lot of time in churches, but what strikes me immediately here is the difference in "ornateness", for want of a better word, between an Irish church and an Italian one. I wouldn't call this interior "spartan", and clearly some work went into the mural on the back wall, but otherwise it keeps to a relatively simple and clean aesthetic.
