11 Travis And Chris Are Gonna Be Pissed

5:30 AM and they have no idea (yet) that a nearly 3 foot high frozen snow bank awaits them. I’ve lived here since 1985 and they usually plow the other way where the massive mountain of snow is on my side of the street. Not this time, I got lucky. Must be a new driver!

I didn't have the light, and only 3 or 4 forward and 1 reverse.
I owned another brand before I got a Toro. I'd never recommend anything else.
They have gotten pretty sexy in recent years.

Alastair - the older you get, the more you need to be careful with moving snow. I always used a "push" shovel with lighter snowfalls, the Toro for the large and heavy ones.
My daughter in MN had a heart attack last winter at age 51 pushing snow. It was the inner wall of the artery feeding the heart that sheared off as a flap and blocked blood flow. Apparently it happens more in females than males. After a couple of stents, she is ok -- but obviously changed.
So, we preach "respect a winter snowfall".

Our street never gets ploughed (it's a side street), so we never have this problem. We've never owned a snow blower, just a couple of large shovels. It's a pretty good workout when we get a sizable snowfall. We get a fair bit of snow here in Colorado (but most of it towards the end of winter), but it's mostly powdery, and easier to shift than the horrible stuff in the midwest or northeast. We lived in Syracuse for 8 years, and that snow was awful.

2-4" inches of snow forecast for this afternoon and tonight. That'll be a start for us catching up with communities well to the south. We've had a cold but dry winter so far.

Dave I’ve long said be careful what you wish for it might come true. Paul

Somewhere in our garage is an electric Toro snowblower. I haven't needed to use it in years. While I doubt it could handle 11" or 12", 4"-6" inches is no problem. A plow service is even better. I wonder when we'll have a large enough snowfall for them to come and push.

I have an old scout friend who used to live in a cul de sac and he had a huge 2 stage snowblower similar to what you described. Being a true scouter he never thought twice about clearing every drive and sidewalk in the sac and if the city hadn’t cleared it by the time he finished (cul de sac’s are always last) he would clear it too.

Good news, I mentioned my blower was running rough so I pulled the spark plug and it was carbon fouled. I cleaned and re gapped it and now it runs like new again. I’m all smiles! Paul

Paul - you are right as always. My last Toro was a big 2 stage, electric start, and I sort of recall it was a 28 in . It worked quite well, as I serviced it every fall.
I can't find any photos of it.

I’d expect your Toro to been much bigger and powerful compared to my 11 year old 21 inch Yardworks single stage snow thrower. It works although it was running a little rough and it wasn’t pulling me along as it ate through the snow like it used to so I needed to apply more pushing effort. Paul

Great shot, better title.

In MN I lived on a cul de sac -- we all took the hit from the plow.
Thanks to Toro, it wasn't impossible.
