Cappy’s is a small, family owned & operated breakfast/lunch café. I had been there on a friend’s recommendation for their huevos rancheros, which turned out to be very good. I noticed there was a Reuben on the menu, and decided to come back another time for that… That time eventually happened, and here are my thoughts.
The first thing I noticed was the unique presentation of the Reuben- they had cut out the center portion of the sandwich and set it on top of the two halves- not sure why, but it was a nice touch, IMHO. The $9.99 Reuben comes with your choice of fries, coleslaw or soup- I chose the fries. There was no pickle, so a perfect grade is not possible. The rye bread was perfectly toasted without the crust being hard. There was some dripping just a little bit when I took my first few bites from the center piece of the sandwich- a good sign. The blend of sauerkraut and dressing- I’m guessing it was some type of Thousand Island- worked very well together. The amount of Swiss cheese was adequate, but would have preferred more of it. The corned beef was tender and tasty, though I would have preferred more of that as well. Overall, everything worked well together to make it a very enjoyable Reuben. The fries were ok. I will give Cappy’s an A- on their Reuben, and I will come back again for another.
