The gardens are named after the first post-war mayor of Malaga. They were designed by Fernando Guerrero-Strachan Rosado. They were inaugurated in 1948, seven years after the death of the Malaga architect. The Pedro Luis Alonso Gardens were designed with a Latin design, as well as with Hispano-Muslim and French characteristics. Proof of this are the flowerbeds with low hedges that provide colour and symmetry. The orange trees also provide shade, aroma and colour. And finally, the contrast of the ponds, which provide a feeling of freshness and relaxing sounds. They were also designed in such a way as to create an ingenious harmony between the Puerta Oscura Gardens, the walls of the Alcazaba and the Town Hall. It is therefore a unique botanical-architectural union.
