Closely related to Clavulina coralloides, this species is more simply structured and less busy. Rather than branching multiple times its branches are laterally flattened, grooved or rugose, fairly thick and not forking until near the tip when they give way to a spray of short branches with blunted tips. This specimen is atypical in having several main branches and being floppier and less upright than is usual for the species. The fruit bodies are white, usually only 1-1.5 inches across and up to 4 inches tall. They are terrestrial and found solitary or scattered (but occasionally grouped) in mixed forests. There is no odor. It is considered edible.
