Málaga. Catedral de Santa Maria de la Encarnación

Built on the remains of an Almohad mosque, the origin of the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación of Málaga dates back to the end of the 15th century, when the Catholic Monarchs entered the city. They were the ones who first promoted the construction of the church of the Sagrario (nowadays known as the chapel of the Sagrario), the first part of the Cathedral, which was built with elements of the Elizabethan Gothic style.Worship was enabled at the Cathedral as we know it today in 1768.Its outside is crowned by a large main entrance with a baroque composition full of ornaments. The north tower is 87 meters high, making it one of the tallest cathedrals in Spain. The south tower remains unfinished, topped by the uncovered shafts of its columns. People tell different stories about it. One of them says that the money set aside for this work was used to help the United States in the War of Independence. Another version says that it was used for the construction of commercial roads to connect Málaga with other cities to avoid robberies.

Ornate and lovely architecture, probably too costly to try and duplicate today.
