Granular Jelly Fungus or Crystal Brain Fungus
This agaric jelly fungus in the Hyaloraceae family is a small, white, translucent species that is recognized by the white mineral inclusions of calcium oxalate crystals it harbors. Fruit bodies are from 0.2-1 cm across but typically coalesce to form cerebriform sheets up o 8 inches by 2 inches across and 1/3 of inch tall. It fruits on a variety of hardwoods in fall and winter. It often has pinkish tints and in age it turns brownish. In dry weather it flattens and forms a leathery-appearing sheet. It has no odor or distinct taste and is conisdered inedible.
