Tricholomopsis decora

Millersylvania State Park, Washington

Decorated Mop
There are up to nine yellow Tricholomopsis species in the PNW region. This cheerful species is perhaps the most common but is very similar to the seldom seen T. floccosa with more brown-colored scales. It is saprobic on the wood of conifers and fruits in the fall. Caps are 1-2.5 inches, convex or plane, yellow, dry or moist and covered in blackish scales that thin out in density from the disc. Gills are yellow, broadly attached and fairly close. Stalks are 1-3 inches, often curved depending on position on the wood, cylindrical and hollow. Flesh is yellow. The taste is mild with an indistinct odor. They are not regarded as edible.
