On map 5 a previous owner drew the position of comet 109P/1862 O1 (Swift-Tuttle) as observed on August 19, 1862.
Swift-Tuttle is the parent of the Perseid meteor shower that we see each August. This image was drawn just over a month after its discovery on July 16.
This is to honor this previous owner for sharing his observation of a remarkable comet.
It made this map very personal to him, and makes it precious to me....
A question to be answered is: who could have been it?
