The Alte Pinakothek is a museum that is part of the Munich Kunstareal in Munich, with paintings by Renaissance and Baroque artists in particular. Construction began in 1826 and the building was finished in 1836, making it the then largest museum building in the world. The museum holds a couple of thousand paintings by European artists from the 13th to the 18th centuries. Especially the collection of early Italian, Old German, Old Dutch and Flemish artists are among the most important in the world. More than 800 paintings are on display in the Alte Pinakothek.
