Laccaria bicolor

Twanoh State Park, Washington

Deceiver
This Laccaria is characterized by a smooth and pinkish orange cap, contrasting lavender gills and a roughened stipe with lavender mycelium at the base. It is generally smaller that other Laccarias, with dry caps from 2-7 cm. that are convex to plane or uplifted in age. Gills are lavender or pink, rather widely spaced, with a notched attachment. Stipes are tough and fibrous with a shaggy appearance caused by recurved fibrils. They are usually orangey brown in color. The mycelium shows lavender tones. Fruit bodies may occur singly or in small groups under conifers, in this case shore pine.
