09 Fall Blowout

Time for the annual ritual of winterizing the irrigation system. We’ve been getting plenty of rain recently and with more rain and a cold snap on the way I shut it down for the season. Takes me about an hour to blowout 6 zones and it was a beautiful brisk morning to be out getting it done.

Ultrasonic, then?

Per Copilot:
Deer have an impressive sense of hearing and can detect higher frequency sounds than humans. While humans can typically hear sounds in the range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (20 kHz), deer are able to hear sounds up to around 30 kHz. This heightened ability allows them to be more attuned to their environment and detect potential threats more effectively.

I suppose you could go with the coyote pack.

I think the farm frequencies are above human hearing range.

Thanks for the recommendation, Jim. I'll let you know how our neighbors like it.

I'm surprised a deer hasn't smashed one of the pumpkins.

Actually the local Pecan farm uses a random sound system to scare away the birds. It apparently works. I recall hearing that it is bursts of high frequency noise.

Playing the sounds of a pack of coyotes on the hunt? Paul

Dave - it sounds like you need to install a multi station/zone sound blaster for the deer.

I do have a compressor, two actually and just this year I figured out how to combine the two of them for more storage & compressing power and it worked faster and more effectively. I bought a 21 gallon Harbor freight compressor on sale just to blowout the system figuring the return on investment would be just under 3 years and this was my 3rd year.

Glad I winterized when I did since we get below freezing the next several days and we’ve gotten plenty of rain recently so it’s not been needed anyway. I’ve had it turned off for about 3 weeks anyways. Paul

Do you have your own compressor? Our system was shut down a couple of weeks ago. I miss being able to call up a zone on my phone to ask the deer to leave our plants alone.

I recall the winterizing tasks. Forgetting the maple leaves for a minute, it still took a good weekend to be sure all was ready.
