Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated November 1st and 2nd of each year. During recent years, the holiday has gained sizable favor in the USA. It is celebrated (in one way or another) by a broad range of people (not just Mexicans) who appreciate a special day to remember their loved ones- including pets- who are no longer with them.
Rather than being a somber or mournful occasion, Día de los Muertos is a joyous and colorful celebration of life and death. It is believed that during these days, the spirits of the departed return to the world of the living to visit their families and loved ones. The American made movie "Coco" is a delightful movie based on the holiday. Many people celebrate this day by setting up altars with their favorite foods, drink, and photos. Others join community celebrations.
We all can find good things to appreciate from other cultures.
