Lake Boga was used as a sea plane repair facility and an operational facility during WW2 by the RAAF as well as USAAC crew. Catalinas mainly. It was located inland for safety as considered safe from carrier aircraft attack whilst undergoing long service times to repair damage or major overhauls.
The artwork reflects life on Lake Boga from its wartime heritage to its current life style of using the lake for leisure. The round lake has its origins in subsidence of the centre of a volcano when it was active. It is no longer active. The area surrounding Lake Boga is dry and flat and otherwise suitable for wheat growing. The rail network was put in to support the RAAF base logistics in 1942/3.
