Plaça Major (Main Square)
In the middle of Catalonia, halfway between the city of Barcelona and the Pyrenees, lies Vic, a town with an incalculable wealth of heritage. Among its tourist attractions, the Plaça Major, also known as Mercadal, stands out without a doubt. It is square-shaped and surrounded by porches on all four sides. Under these porches there are a large number of shops and bars where we will find local products of very good quality. The buildings that surround the square are from different periods and styles, and together they form a mosaic of architecture worth contemplating. This square is located in the highest part of the old city of Vic, and is very chameleonic, since all kinds of events are held throughout the year. In the middle of it, where there is a large open-air space, the weekly market is held every Tuesday and Saturday, since medieval times. Today, this market offers top-quality products from the Osona region, all kinds of handicrafts, clothing and even poultry. During the autumn, the stalls selling mushrooms and seasonal fruit are a real treat.
