08 Smokin’

Burning off the downed limbs and locusts seed pods from my other property. Happens every fall! What am I saying I do this several times a year. Everything was wet hence all the smoke and a slight challenge to get it burning hot.

Thia is is really interesting...full of action and contrast....but it does seem like a big burn to me, sufficient to attract the police or fire marshal where I live. We had outdoor incinerators at one time, as a child I loved their light and warmth....but maybe not the smoke so much (1959.ish they were banned). Traveller

Permits are not required for recreational fire pit like this one or exterior fireplaces My fires are usually bigger but short lived. When burning I never walk away for even a minute, have a charged garden hose, metal rake and shovel on the scene ready to control the pit fire if needed.

In the military I was a first responder, a UP (unit police) and we were cross trained to assist the base FD in the event of a large fire which only happened once during my time so I am confident of my abilities to manage the burn. I might be pushing my luck with the city when I put leaves on the fire tho. Paul

I recall in the cities I lived in in MN, burning leaves and storm damaged wood was prohibited. However we could get a permit for a backyard recreational fire pit.

Do you need a permit to burn?
