Missing South African woman died in ‘swimming pool related incident’

Friends of missing South African teacher Angelique Tong have confirmed that she has died in what has been described as a ‘swimming pool related incident’.

The news follows an urgent appeal that was made yesterday for the whereabouts of the young woman teacher, who went missing in Phnom Penh on September 29th after a dinner date with a man known only as ‘Jack’.

A post on social media by a friend of Miss Tong stated that ‘Sadly we have located Angel’s body. She passed away on 29 Sep 2024 in what appears to be a swimming pool related incident. The family have been informed and formal identification will be taking place this morning. Our thoughts are with them at this upsetting and difficult time. Thank you all for your help.’

South African national Angelique, 26 – who was originally from Johannesburg – went missing in Phnom Penh on 29 Sep 2024.

She was last seen after going on a dinner date at Harry’s Bistro on Phnom Penh Riverside with a British male that she knew as “Jack”, whom she had known for 2 weeks.

Miss Tong is believed to have then gone to the Hometown Hangout bar in Street 454.

However, she never returned home from the date and friends launched an urgent search after she failed to turn up for work as a teacher at a Phnom Penh school on the 7th of October.

It is believed that she passed away on the 29th of September and that her body was found at a Phnom Penh hotel after her phone was traced to its last known location.
